UFC 89 Bisping vs Leben

October 18, 2008

Venue: The NIA in Birminghan, England
Broadcast Free on Spike

The fight between Lyoto Machida and Thaigo Silva has been scrapped due to a training injury that Thiago suffered. I hope this will be re-scheduled for UFC 90 or 91, I was really looking forward to watching the two undefeated MMA fighters go at it.

UFC Middleweight bout:

This has all the makings of a great fight. Michael "The Count" Bisping has looked phenomenal at 185 pounds. Chris "The Crippler" Leben will be a dangerous opponent with the KO power he possesses. Look for Bisping to use his quickness to land lots of flurries and the move out of Chris's reach. I will say Michael "The Count" Bisping will win by TKO in round 2 if he doesn't get caught by one of Chris "The Crippler" Leben's big punches.

UFC Light Heavyweight bout:

If the powerful and exciting Brandon "The Truth" Vera shows up, this one could be over in a hurry. Keith "The Dean of Mean" Jardine has shown that he has a suspect chin in his losses to Houston Alexander and Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva. If the tentative and gassed from the beginning Vera shows up, he could be in for a long night of leg kicks from "The Dean of Mean". If Vera figured out how to cut weight and maintain his power, then look for this one to end in the first round with Brandon "The Truth" Vera winning by KO.

UFC Light Heavyweight bout:

This one will not last long. These two MMA fighters have a combined 17 fights, and only 2 off those have gone past the first round. This one is hard to call. Rameau "The African Assassian" Sokoudjou showed a weakness in the ground game in his fight against Lyoto Machida, but Luis "Banha" Cane has only won 1 of his fights by submission. Look for this one to be won by the fighter who lands the first big shot.

UFC Welterweight bout:

If Chris "Lights Out" Lytle avoids getting a nasty cut, we all know he will get cut, he should TKO Paul Taylor no later than the second round.

UFC Heavyweight bout:

Shane Carwin has fought for a total of 9 minutes and 42 seconds in his MMA career. That doesn't sound very promising, until you realize that those 9 minutes and change gives Shane a 9-0 record. I will not be the one that breaks with tradition, so I will say Shane Carwin will win by TKO early in the first round.

UFC Welterweight bout:

Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis is to big of a step up in competition for Paul Kelly. Marcus will win by TKO in the second round.

UFC Welterweight bout:

Akihiro "The Japanese Sensation" Gono will lock up Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy with an arm bar to win this fight in the first round.

UFC Welterweight bout:

In this France vs Sweden MMA contest look for France pull out the victory. Jess "The Joker" Liaudin will submit David Bielkheden before the end of the third round.

UFC Lightweight bout:

Both of the MMA fighters are coming off of decision losses to Rich Clementi, what are the chances of that. Terry Etim will be looking to submit Sam "Hands of Stone" Stout, while Stout will want to keep this fight standing and KO Etim. I think Sam Stout will win by decision after 3 good rounds of fighting.

UFC Lightweight bout:

These two fighters like the submission game. They should cancel each other out, so we will either see a nice technical ground fight, or a not so technical stand up fight. I hope for the later, they are way funner to watch.

UFC Lightweight bout:

Swedish MMA FighterPer Eklund Vs. French MMA FighterSamy Schiavo

This will be the second France vs Sweden contest at UFC 89. Sweden will even the score as Per Eklund wins by decision over Samy Schiavo
