You can check out the results from UFC 92 The Ultimate 2008 here. It was a good night of fights, with some surprising outcomes.
Venue: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Nevada
Broadcast on PPV
The UFC will end 2008 with a great Fight Card for UFC 92 The Ultimate 2008. There are three MMA fights on this card that could be the main event for many of the past fight cards. I will be a fun way to end the year and look forward to 2009.
UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout:
Forrest Griffin vs
Rashad Evans
Forrest Griffin will make his first title defense against fellow TUF alumni "Sugar" Rashad Evans. I think the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship will be decided by Rashad's conditioning. Rashad has a tendency to get tired as the fight goes on, which could spell disaster against someone with a motor like Forrest. When they are on their feet Forrest will use his longer reach to keep Rashad out of range and stuff any take down attempts. Rashad could always KO Forrest, like his training partner KeithJardine did. Jardine also beat Chuck Liddell and helped Rashad do it also. I am going to pick Forrest by submission in round 4. You can read MMAtalkers full fight breakdown here. Forrest vs Rashad
UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship bout:
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs
Frank Mir
This MMA fight will decide who gets to face the winner of the Randy Couture vs Brock Lesnar match up at UFC 91. Both of these guy's are submission wizards. Look for the submissions to cancel each other out and hopefully we will get treated to a sloppy stand up war. Nogueira has only lost to three different fighters, and Frank Mir will not get added as the fourth. This one will be a decision victory for Antonio RodrigoNogueria. You can read MMAtalkers full fight breakdown here.Nogueira vs Mir
UFC Light Heavyweight bout:
Quinton Jackson vs
Wanderlei Silva
Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva has KO'd Quinton "Rampage" Jackson the previous two times the MMA practitioners have faced off. As good as Quinton is, this is just a bad match up for him. Everything that Quinton is good at, Wanderlei is great at. This one will end like the other two. Wanderlei will KO Quinton in round 2 and hopefully get a title shot with the winner of the Forrest vs Rashad fight. You can read MMAtalkers full fight breakdown here. Wanderlei vs Rampage
UFC Middleweight bout:
C.B. Dollaway vs.
Mike Massenzio
This will be a tough fight for C.B. "The Doberman" Dollaway. Mike Massenzio has won 5 out of 6 of his last fights, all by submission. C.B. has shown a weakness for arm bars, by guys named Amir anyway. It will be nice to see him go against a non TUF fighter. I am going to pick C.B. by TKO in round 3.
UFC Heavyweight bout:
Cheick Kongo vs.
Mustafa Al-Turk
Mustafa Al-turk faces a tough test in his UFC debut. Cheick Kongo is very good at what he does and his only 2 loses in the UFC are by split decision. Cheick should KO Mustafa in the first round and get himself back in line for a title shot.
UFC Middleweight bout:
Yushin Okami vs.
Dean Lister
You have to feel for Yushin Okami. He was the one who was suppose to fight Anderson Silva at UFC 90 for the UFC Middleweight Championship. Yushin got injured, and now finds himself fighting on the undercard against Dean Lister. The worst part about it, he has a good chance of losing by submission to Dean. I will pick Yushin though, buy decision after 3 decent rounds.
UFC Heavyweight bout:
Antoni Hardonk vs.
Mark Burch
UFC Light Heavyweight bout:
Matt Hamill vs.
Reese Andy
UFC Welterweight bout:
Brad Blackburn vs.
Ryo Chonan
UFC Heavyweight bout:
Dan Evensen vs.
Pat Barry
