Ultimate Fight Night 16: Fight for the Troops

Venue:The Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, NC
Broadcast free on Spike TV on December 10

Ultimate Fight Night 16: Fight for the Troops will be a 3 hour live event to benefit the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The fight will be aired free on Spike, and viewers will be able to call in their donations to help the National Intrepid Center for Excellence. This is a really cool thing that the UFC is doing to help our veterans. It seems like we have forgotten about them a little with the election and the economy doing so poorly. Let's hope that this will swing the spotlight back their way, at least for one night.

Fight for the Troops Main Fight Card

Welterweight bout:

American MMA Fighter Josh Koscheck vs. Flag of Japan Yoshiyuki Yoshida

No one would have blamed Josh Koscheck if he backed out of this fight. He agreed to fight Thiago Alves on short notice at UFC 90 after Diego Sanchez got injured. Thiago beat on Josh for most of the three rounds on that Oct 25 fight card. If you have read any of my past fight previews, I have never been a big Koscheck fan, but he might have won me over by keeping his commitment to this fight. Yoshida has not been fighting the same level of competition that Koscheck has. Look for Josh to get a take down and work his ever improving ground and pound for the TKO victory in round two.

Welterweight bout:

Flag of Canada Jonathan Goulet vs. American MMA Fighter Mike Swick

This MMA matchup could be over very quickly. Mike Swick likes to start fast and go home early. Goulet also finishs most of his fights in round 1. This very evenly matched fight could be won by the first fighter that lands a good shot. I still lean toward Mike "Quick" Swick to win by TKO in round one.

Middleweight bout:

American MMA Fighter Tim Credeur vs. American MMA Fighter Nate Loughra

Both of these MMA fighters like to work the submission part of the game and they are both tall Gumby like Middleweights. Nate Loughra is a perfect 9-0, but that will end when Credeur wins by decision after three rounds.

Light Heavyweight bout:

American MMA Fighter Steve Cantwell vs. American MMA Fighter Razak Al-Hassan

Steve "Robot" Cantwell was the WEC Light Heavyweight Champion before WEC disbanded all of the heavier weight classes. Cantwell showed his ever improving all around skills in his last fight. Those all around skill are what will enable him to win this fight in the third round by TKO.

Lightweight bout:

American MMA Fighter Matt Wiman vs. American MMA Fighter Frank Edgar

These two UFC Lightweights are fun to watch. I don't think Frank Edgar has ever been in a boring fight, and Matt Wiman's last fight was really fun to watch until he ended it with a KO. This has a good chance to be the Fight of the Night, and I see Frand Edgar winning by decision after three crazy rounds.
