WEC 36 Re-Cap
WEC Middleweight bout:
Jake Rosholt vs Nissen Osterneck
Round 1:
Osterneck opens up with a nice flurry. Rosholt works for a take down and gets it. Back to their feet. Osterneck landing some nice shots. Rosholt is blocking everything with his face. Rosholt gets a take down and works some nice ground and pound. Osterneck working for a submission, but Rosholt blocks it. Rosholt takes Osternecks back and beats on him for about 20 seconds, ref almost stopped it. The round ends. Rosholt is a beast on the ground, but he needs to learn to dodge when they are on their feet.
Round 2:
More face defense being used by Rosholt. Osterneck working for a submission, Rosholt blocks it and starts some ground and pound. The pace has slowed and a few boo's from the crowd. Back to their feet. Osterneck teeing off on Rosholt, but Rosholt gets a takedown and full mount. Rosholt beats on Osterneck until the ref stops it. What a great ending. It looked like Rosholt was about to get KO'd, but then he got a takedown and beat on Osterneck until the ref was forced to stop it for a TKO.
WEC Featherweight bout:
Leonard Garcia vs Jens Pulver
Round 1:
Jens is stalking. Jens is trying to load up for a big left hand, but Garcia catches him and stuns Jens. Garcia then ends the fight with a big right for a TKO victory. Lots of action for as short as it was. I thought Jens would be the one to win by KO though. Looks like we might see a Faber vs Garcia match up soon.
WEC Middleweight bout:
David Avellan vs Aaron Simpson
Round 1:
WOW..........They dance around a little, engage, and Aaron Simpson catches David Avellan with a big right hand and ends the fight after just 18 seconds.
WEC Middleweight Championship bout: Non-title fight due to Filho not making weight
Paulo Filho vs Chael Sonnen
Lets see how Paulo "Fatty" Filho does after missing weight by 4 pounds. Do you think he missed to make sure he would always be recognized as the last Middleweight Champ on the WEC.
Round 1:
Filho goes for a take down. Chael defends it and they are back up. Chael catches Filho and knocks him down. Chael stand over Filho and throws a few shots, but does not go to the ground. Filho almost got an arm bar. Filho rolls for a knee bar, Chael blocks it. Boring round. Chael stood over Filho most of the round. Lets hope for a better round 2.
Round 2:
Both standing and throwing to begin round 2. Filho gets a take down, but Chael stands up. They are back on their feet. Chael slams Filho while Filho was trying to pull guard. Chael landing some combinations. Filho lands some shots at the end of the round. A better round than the first, but still not great.
Round 3:
Chael throwing lots of little jabs. Filho goes for a weak take down. Chael stands above him, they stand back up. Lots of boo's......Filho was not in the fight at all. Filho looked like he was seeing spots, a very boring fight..............strange..........one wonders if Filho will pass his pee test?
WEC Featherweight Championship bout:
Urijah Faber vs Mike Brown
Round 1:
Urijah landing some nice shots from the outside. They tie up in the middle of the ring. Mike lands a big shot and ties up Urijah against the cage. Urijah lands some great knees. Brown lands a huge shot, Urijah throws a crazy back elbow, and Brown lands a big uppercut/clothesline. Brown does a great job of keeping the pressure on until the ref steps in to stop the fight. Mike Brown is the new WEC Featherweight Champion. As Mike leaves the ring, it looks like he might have an injured rib to go along with the belt.
