UFC 96 Jackson vs Jardine is coming your way March 7, 2009. It has some really interesting match ups. Rampage Jackson and Gabriel Gonzaga can both possibly get title shots if they win impressively enough. Gray Maynard is trying to show the UFC he can be exciting and ditch the Lay and Pray style he has been using lately. Brandon Vera is still trying to regain his exciting Heavyweight fighting style at Light Heavyweight. It should be a good night of MMA action.
Main Card
UFC Light Heavyweight bout:
Quinton Jackson vs.
Keith Jardine
Quinton Jackson should be able to KO Keith Jardine if he stays aggressive enough, but Jardine does have a better leg kick than Forrest Griffin does. If Jardine can injure Rampage Jackson's leg the same way Forrest did, he could eke out a decision victory. I think Rampage will KO Jardine sometime before the second round is over. You can read our full breakdown of Jackson vs Jardine here.
UFC Heavyweight bout:
Shane Carwin vs.
Gabriel Gonzaga
This is going to be a great fight. Shane Carwin has never been out of the first round in his MMA career. He is a perfect 10-0 so far. Gabriel Gonzaga wants to win this one impressively so he can claim the winner of the Frank Mir vs Brock Lesnar fight. Shane has not fought someone as skilled as Gabriel, but all of Gabriel's losses are via TKO, Shane's specialty. I can see either one of these fighters winning this one, but I am leaning towards Gabriel.
UFC Light Heavyweight bout:
Matt Hamill vs.
Mark Munoz
This match puts two former collegiate wrestlers against each other. Mark Munoz was one of the few fighters the UFC moved over from the WEC after they disbanded their heavier weight classes. Look for Munoz to be winning the fight on their feet, but Matt should be able to take him down and work some ground and pound. If the fight is standing, Munoz should win by TKO. If it goes to the ground, Matt should be able to win a decision, or grind out a TKO.
UFC Lightweight bout:
Gray Maynard vs.
Jim Miller
Gray Maynard has been successfully using the Lay and Pray technique to win his MMA fights by decision lately. After each one he says he want to finish the fights. This one should go the same way. Jim Miller has some submission skill that will keep Gray cautious. Gray will easily get the take downs, stay busy enough to not get stood up, and Lay and Pray his way to another decision victory.

UFC Middleweight bout:
Kendall Grove vs.
Jason Day
These two had both fought a lot of the same fighters. It doesn't help to look at it though, because the both beat and lost to the same fighters. Jason is a tough gritty fighter that could knock out Kendall. Kendall did show some much improved stand up in his last fight, but I don't know if he will be able to hang with Jason on their feet. This is another one that is tough to call, but I am leaning towards Jason Day.
Preliminary Card
UFC Light Heavyweight bout:
Brandon Vera vs.
Mike Patt
Brandon Vera needs an impressive win to get back to fighting on the televised part of the card. I though for sure he would be a beast at Light Heavyweight, but I guess the weight cut is still messing with him.
UFC Welterweight bout:
Tamdan McCrory vs.
Ryan Madigan
UFC Welterweight bout:
Matt Brown vs.
Pete Sell
UFC Light Heavyweight bout:
Tim Boetsch vs.
Jason Brilz
UFC Lightweight bout:
Aaron Riley vs.
Shane Nelson
