Will Golden Boy Promotions and Affliction's partnership last?
Can a half boxing and half MMA PPV make any money. I don't see enough people wanting to pay to see a mixed fight card. I have several friends that are hardcore boxing fans. They just don't get MMA. I have had them over to watch a few UFC's. Whenever I start to get excited when a fighter moves from half guard to side guard , they just stare and make jokes about the ground game. One of them has even re-named the Rear Naked Choke to the Broke Back Mountain Choke.
My friend has also had me over to watch some boxing. I don't mind a really good boxing match, there is just not enough of them. Watching two guys bob, throw three punches, weave, throw three punches, dance......it just gets old. There is nothing worse that watching the quicker boxer dance in and out for 12 rounds beating up his opponent, but not being able to KO him.
So will a boxing fan pay for a PPV with only half a boxing card and vice versa for the MMA fan. The Golden Boy and Affliction deal calls for a 50/50 split of PPV revenue. Golden Boy Productions has put on some major PPV's and are used to getting a lot more PPV buys than the first Affliction show got. If Golden Boy puts a big name boxer on the fight card, it looks like to me they will be getting the short end of the money stick. How long do you think they will let Affliction ride on their coat tails before they want to change the revenue structure of their deal?
