Wanderlei Silva vs Quinton Jackson
You can check out the results of this and all the other matches from UFC 92 The Ultimate 2008 here.
At UFC 92 we will be treated to the third installment of Silva vs Jackson. This is a match up of the two best fighter nicknames in MMA. You have Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. It is a little surprising that the UFC would make this match up considering how lopsided the first two fights were. With the exception of one take down by Jackson, Wanderlei Silva dominated both contest, winning by brutal KO's . The UFC could be hoping for a repeat performance, so they will have lots of hype for a Silva vs the winner of the Forrest Griffin vs Rashad Evans fight.
Many fight analyst contend that "Rampage" is a much improved fighter since he has joined the UFC, I don't see it. The two big fights he won, ChuckLiddell and Dan Henderson, were very favorable match ups for him. He caught the "The Iceman" with a big punch and Dan Henderson usually fights at 185 pounds. "The Axe Murderer" has proven to have "Rampage's" number in the past, and that has not changed.
When this one starts, Silva will come out guns blazing looking for an early KO. Jackson will try to get the fight to the ground. If Jackson can get a take down, he will probably win that round, but I don't see him being able to finish "The Axe Murderer". When they are on their feet, Silva will be trying to get a Muay Thai clinch, and just like the first two fights, "Rampage" will go down after eating about 5 knees. It would not be surprising if this one ends in the first round by KO, but it will go no later than the second and either way, Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva will win by KO.
If I was lucky enough to be a UFC match maker, this would be my dream. Silva beats down Jackson, and gets the winner of Forrest vs Rashad. Silva then beats Forrest which sets up this amazing UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout. We would get to see Wanderlei Silva defend his newly acquired title against the ageless Randy "The Natural" Couture.
It may sound a little out there, but think about it. If Randy stays at Heavyweight, he has some nice match ups, but would have a tough time getting back to a title shot before he is finally too old to fight MMA anymore. If he drops back down to Light Heavyweight, the UFC could give him a title shot, and not worry about any backlash about him not deserving it. What MMA fan would not want to see Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva vs Randy "The Natural" Couture for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
