Flag of the United States Carlos Condit defeats Flag of Japan Hiromitsu Miura by ref stoppage in round 4.

This was a great fight. I am no conspiracy theorist, but I was pissed when the fight ended. It seemed to me that every time Miura got on top, the ref was saying "I need action or I will stand it up". Condit was allowed to ride Miura around for minutes at a time, and Miura would get top position using great reversals and the fight would get stood up 20 seconds later. When the fight was stopped, there were only about 17 seconds left in the 4th round and I was screaming at the TV. This was the worst reffing I have seen since the last Kimbo fight. Miura  put on the best display of Judo throws I have ever seen in a MMA fight, too bad he wasn't allowed to win. I call BS!!!!!

Flag of the United States Steve Cantwell defeats Flag of the United States Brian Stann by TKO in round 2

Steve Cantwell showed a lot in this fight. He landed some amazing body shots that I think lead the the end.

Flag of the United States Jamie Varner defeats Flag of the United States Marcus Hicks

Jamie Varner looked good in this win.

Flag of the United States Josh Grispi defeats Flag of the United States Micah Miller

Josh "The Fluke" Grispi is anything but a fluke. He looked good and already has a 12-1 record at the young age of 19.

Kimbo Slice has officially made it to the big time, now if he would just fight someone good!

Last week Kimbo Slice was signed to an exclusive contract with MMA clothing leader TapouT and EliteXC anounced that he would be fighting on CBS again this Oct. 4. That seems like a  really good week for someone with a 3-0 MMA record. Kimbo didn't stop there though. It has just been announced that he will be co-starring in a kids movie called "Kung Fu U" with none other than Hulk Hogan. I wonder what the parents will do when they google Kimbo and come up with all of his old streetfights. Only in America .......

EliteXC Lawler vs Smith II Results

EliteXC did such a better job with their second CBS show. This time the fighters got more airtime than the dancers, and the pace was much faster between fights. Whoever was the match maker for this event hit a home run. Every fight was entertaining with three ending by TKO and one by submission.

Here are the results:

Robbie "Ruthless" Lawler wins by TKO in the second round. Scott Smith will have sore ribs for a while from knees.

Jake Shields wins by submission in round 1. Nick Thompson's crazy neck beard did not help him defend the choke.

Nick Diaz wins by TKO in round 2. Thomas Deny was game, and put on a great show, but Nick was too heavy handed for the "Wildman"
.

Antonio Silva wins by TKO in round 2. My only question is why was the EliteXC Heavyweight Championship an under card.

Chris Cyborg  wins by TKO in round 2 twice. This was the only strange event that happened. Cyborg is a very scary woman.

The Best Pound for Pound?

With the upcoming Anderson Silva versus James Irvin fight, there has been a lot of discussion about the best pound for pound fighters in the world. We are constantly hearing that Anderson Silva is the best, followed by Georges St. Pierre, Fedor Emelianenko, B.J. Penn, and I even heard someone mention Forrest Griffin in the top five after his victory over Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. I am a big Forrest Griffin fan, but even I think that is a stretch. The more MMA fights that I watch the more I think that the pound for pound adage just doesn't work in MMA.

B.J. "The Prodigy" Penn is one of the best examples that we have in MMA. B.J. has an overall professional record of 13-4-1, of these 18 fights, 11 have been at 155 pounds, and 7 have ranged from 170 pounds all the way up to 205 pounds. Unlike most fighters, when B.J. Penn steps up in weight, he takes on some of the best fighters in the higher weight class. He has fought Matt Hughes, Georges St. Pierre, Lyoto Machida, Rodrigo Gracie, and Renzo Gracie.

Out of the 11 fights at 155 pounds, B.J. Penn has a 9-1-1 record, with his only lose way back at UFC 35 to Jens "Little Evil" Pulver. Out of the 7 fights above 155 pounds, B.J. Penn has a 4-3 record. Even more telling, at 155 pounds his 9 victories break down into 5 TKO/KO's, 3 submissions, and 1 decision. His 4 victories above 155 pounds break down into 2 submissions and 2 decisions, with no TKO/KO's. This break down shows that B.J. Penn is a phenomenal 155 pound MMA fighter, and a very average MMA fighter above 155 pounds. I think B.J. Penn's lack a TKO/KO's when fighting above 155 pounds proves that as fighters move up from their natural weight class, their power doesn't come with them. Which seems to prove that the pound for pound adage doesn't work.

I am probably one of the few people that believes James "The Sandman" Irvin has a real shot at winning his upcoming fight versus Anderson "The Spider" Silva. James Irvin has great knockout power at 205 pounds, and is used to getting hit by bigger guys, which could make Anderson Silva a little less effective. If that happens, then "The Spider" will have to try to get the fight to the ground and try to push his Jiu Jitsu advantage. While Anderson attempts to get the fight to the mat, he might just eat a knee from "The Sandman". If Anderson does lose by a knee strike, do you think that would be considered an act of Karma, considering all of the pain he has inflicted on his opponents with his knees?

A Behind the Scenes of the last The Ultimate Fighter

I found some interesting videos by the TV Guide Channel. They are a behind the scenes look at this season's The Ultimate Fighter. It is broken up into three sections, the first one is with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, the second one is with Forrest Griffin, and the third is with this seasons fighters. It is about 16 minutes, but worth checking out.

The round by round re-cap of UFC 86 Jackson vs Griffin can be found in our Past Events. If you just want to see who won, you just need to scroll down a little. I was worried about paying for this one, but I am glad I did. This might be because I am a Forrest Griffin fan, but I liked all of the other fights but one. The Patrick Cote vs Ricardo Almeadia fight was not very good.

Who do you think Dana White is pulling for?

With the upcoming fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Tim Sylvia on Afflictions first PPV on July 19, how happy do you think Dana would be if Tim wins? If Tim does beat Fedor, it would prove Dana right on several different fronts. One, that Fedor is overrated and built a 27-1 record by fighting sub-par competition. Two, when Randy Couture only wanted to fight Fedor, Dana was quick to point out that Randy would easily beat Fedor, and that Randy should stay in the UFC where he would be able to fight the best competition. So I think Dana would be just about the happiest MMA fan/Competing Promotion President in the world if Sylvia pulls out a win. So now the real question is....Do you think that Dana White will buy the inaugural Affliction PPV, and how many friends do you think he will invite over to watch it with him.
